The Exotic Wildlife of Ladakh

The biting cold breezes from the snowy peaks of the Himalayas and the scenic mountains with sparse vegetation is what we think first when we imagine Ladakh. One of the best places to experience the rich and diverse wildlife of Ladakh is the Hemis High Altitude National Park. Located at an altitude of 3,500 to 6,900 metres, the Park sprawls 600 sq km on the banks of the Indus River. It also encloses the catchment areas of Rumbak, Markha and Sumdah streams. The forest is dominated by alpine scrublands and grasslands and offers a great scope to view the snow leopard, ibex, snow partridge, kiang, serow and golden oriole. May to October stands to be the ideal time for Ladakh travel if is the wildlife you want to experience.
